Eastern Germany showcases itself as an innovation driver for a sustainable hydrogen economy at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam

Eastern Germany has outstanding potential to play a leading role in building a sustainable hydrogen economy. But on the path to becoming the nucleus of Germany’s hydrogen industry, several important tasks remain. IWO CEO Dominik Härle outlined what these are and how they can be addressed on a panel hosted by the federal economic development agency Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam.

In the discussion, Härle emphasized that the success of eastern Germany as a hydrogen hub depends primarily on three factors: the rapid expansion of an efficient hydrogen infrastructure, clear and reliable legal frameworks, and securing long-term investments.

“Only if these prerequisites are met can we successfully scale up the market and position East Germany as a central hub for the sustainable energy transition,” Härle said in Rotterdam.

The Hydrogen Initiative for East Germany unites the strengths of the six East German states, connects government, industry and academia, and, together with its partners, advances the development of a competitive hydrogen economy.
